Black Opal is the premier annual gala sponsored by the Northern Virginia Urban League Young Professionals Network (YPN). Funds raised through Black Opal will support the community empowerment programs of YPN, including education scholarships and other community service initiatives.
"Empowering Educators"
Each year, YPN recognizes two young professionals who have made extraordinary contributions to the community through service and leadership. This year, under our theme of "Empowering Educators" we are honoring two young professional educators who have made exemplary contributions in the teaching profession in Northern Virginia.
ANNOUNCING THE 2012 WINNERS OF THE BLACK OPAL EMPOWERMENT AWARD!
Brandon D. Edwards, Science Teacher at Hammond Middle School and Olinka Turner, Special Ed Math Teacher at T.C. Williams High School.
*Both awardees will be honored during the VIP reception at Black Opal on March 31st.
Ticket Prices
General Admission: $65
VIP (limited number of tickets available): $75
Includes entrance into special VIP reception featuring a special awards presentation and complimentary beer and wine for the entire evening.
All guests will enjoy a DJ and heavy hors d'oeuvres against the backdrop of the luxurious Carlyle neighborhood of Old Town Alexandria.
Attire
"All Black" Semi-Formal, Black-Tie Optional
Ladies: Semi-formal short, t-length dress or floor length gown; accent colors for shoes and accessories, and dresses with nude or other color lining are acceptable.
Men: Black suit or tuxedo with color accents for pocket squares, ties, or ascots.

For guests of Black Opal, YPN has blocked a limited number of hotel rooms at the Westin Alexandria for the discounted rate of $129. Discounted hotel rooms are available until March 15.
